Explode the Code

Consumable, Optional. The "Explode the Code" package is comprised of attractive educational workbooks illustrated by children to teach phonetic and spelling rules. Scheduled as optional in Language Arts for Grade 1 Readers.

• Book 1 covers short vowels.
• Book 2 covers initial and final consonant blends bl-, cr-, -sk, etc.
• Book 3 covers open syllables, the silent e rule, digraphs (single sounds made of two letter sh, th, -ng, ea, etc.) and simple diphthongs.

The "Explode the Code" books' spelling exercises require thinking through the spelling process while lessons focus on specific phonics and spelling rules.

Note: These workbooks are part of an optional workbook series for those who want to supplement our "natural" language-learning approach when it comes to teaching spelling rules for kids. They are scheduled in the Language Arts for Grade 1 Readers Instructor's Guide. Answer keys for the tests are also found in the Language Arts for Grade 1 Readers Instructor's Guide.
